WOW! I don't blog for a few weeks and now I have A LOT of pictures to get on here. Hopefully I can get everything posted over the weekend because I know my little fourthies are dyyyyyying to see a few pictures in particular. But they'll have to wait a few more posts before I get to them.
First things first. . . Thanksgiving. Did yours seem to appear out of nowhere like mine did? CRAZY! Well, a few days before our turkey break we did a fun math activity. We broke into groups with a few local grocery store ads. Each group had to figure out what they could make for 6 people for their Thanksgiving feast. They only had $40 to spend and had to have the following things:
*Meat
*3 side dishes
*Some sort of bread
*Dessert
*Beverage
They searched, compared, circled, highlighted, you name it and they did it! It was great hearing them talk about what their favorite dish was.
Once they had them selected and proved to me that they were within their budget they created their list, cut out their items they "purchased" and made a poster to be hung in the hall.
Many students realized just how much everything costs and that turkeys aren't sold for 47 cents, that's 47 cents PER pound! Some groups tried to buy one can of corn but when I pointed out how much they would get in that small can they quickly caught on to just how much work it is to plan for a big meal like that.
I had many parents tell me that a lot of the students came home and were telling their moms or dads where the cheapest things were and where they should go and shop for their meal! Hopefully they appreciated all the food they enjoyed when Thanksgiving rolled around!

Linda,
Thanks for your fun comments! If you put your mouse over the "I love comments" on our blog and double click it will take you to the website I got it from. Once there, go to accessories, then blinkies. Once there, scroll down and you'll see a lot of different ones you can choose from. The "I love comments" one is on page 3, I believe. Happy blogging!
