What do you get when you add bubble gum, writing, art, and a whole bunch of 4th graders together? A whole bunch of FUN!!!
This past language arts unit we have been learning all about word choice and making sure to use the best words possible to help our writing POP. We've also been working on "How to . . . " essays where we give step-by-step instructions on how to do something. So what could be better for a nine or ten year old than when I whip out a bunch of bubble gum and tell them that they HAVE to practice blowing bubbles for our next writing piece! They happily agreed!!!
We chewed, blew bubbles, then wrote. Chewed, blew, wrote. We repeated these three steps over and over with much delight until our How To Blow A Bubble writing was perfect. We may or may not have had a few bubble - blowing contest in between!
After we finished up with our writing and going through all the stages of the writing process, which took several days and multiple pieces of gum :), we completed our entire project with some art.
Everyone did a great job creating themselves, yarn and all!
And the final touch was adding a balloon to show them blowing their bubble!
We posted them in the hallway and LOVED showing our parents our AMAZING writing. So many parents commented on what great handwriting their student had, and I had to agree.
By the end of our writing we all got the hang of writing descriptively. We also were able to use time-order words like first, next, then, and finally to keep the steps in order.
If you haven't gotten a chance to stop by to see our writing, come see! Everyone did great and much to our surprise not one balloon has been popped!

We loved seeing our beautiful granddaughter Taisley on your blog. It is so fun to watch her progress in 4th grade while we are all the way here in Guyana, South America. It looks like school is a VERY FUN place to be with LOTS of learning going on!!! Keep up the good work, Teacher! They will remember you forever.
